Why it is called a Temple Lamp I am not entirely certain. I had heard a tale that long ago funnel shaped luminaries would be used to line the path and in that way your whole being, flesh & soul, would be highlighted before you entered the temple. I’ve seen no true evidence of this in practice. Besides, most people I know would be better off to sneak into the temple to do their business before the gods had too much of a chance to pre-judge them.
