Sami’s home and studio is located on the North Shore of Oahu. Here Sami designs and hand carves these unique pieces of art using the same material that his father and grandfather worked with, whale bone and cow bone. Sami recognizes in his heart that what he does is more that just a means to make a living, it is a family tradition that he is honored to be a part of.
As a plug, in our display where we show his works we have a photo of the movie star, Pierce Brosnan, wearing one of Sami’s hooks in the movie, “After The Sunset.”
We have been fortunate to have met Sami and his wonderful wife, Sheila, when we were living on Oahu. They are both incredible artists in their own way. Sami does amazing bone carving using techniques that he learned from his grandfather. Sheila is a very creative graphic designer, once in-charge of Apple’s international graphic division. She is the creator of our logo.
Each piece is hand carved and therefore a unique piece of art.
